shirogane monochrome factor
black cloth: $4 x 4m = $16
white cloth: $3.50 x 2m = $7
total: $23
This is all an illusion.
But there is truth within illusions.
And when the illusion fades,
the truth will still resonate within you.

yeah i said i'd already started working on shirogane, didn't i? so here's his hat since i had so much spare materials to do it.
the base form (actually pieced together scrap board... and tore off my bro's foolscap pad
cut the cloth shape, stitched the seams and wrapped around the base form with hot glue
join everything together and add black ribbon seams to cover up all the glue marks (machine sew & handstitch)
looks not so bad for my 3rd attempt at making hats. (',)

i just finished watching kuroshitsuji yesterday. eventhough the whole thing wrapped up with a filler, i still thought the anime was fantastic. but i really didn't want it to end like that, so hopefully there's a season 2... after all, you don't know what sebastian did in the end, do you?
so enough with kuroshitsuji... here's my new project (which i've already started actually): monochrome factor.
joined a group in sgclub for eoy. am actually torn between 3 characters!
1) shirogane
2) kou
his dark form
3) ryuuko / akira (hasn't appeared in anime yet but i so fell in love with him after seeing the character design!!)
of cos i settled for shirogane in the end since that's what i joined the group for. will perhaps do akira next!

Kuchiki Byakuya [Bleach]
i should celebrate my highest no. of repeated cos - byakuya, with a little review.
for whoever do not know him... DIE. here's my lovely byak-kun anyways.
he is cold-hearted but i really he has a soft spot, especially when it comes to rukia. but he doesn't really smile a lot. whoops.
1) byakuya v1 (2005)
event: streetfest
place: orchard
errors:
-no make up (drooping eyebrows, au natural face)
-hand-sewn outfit, no seams, flailing threads
-scarf made out of tattered tshirts (tucked patterns inside to cheat)
-crayon drawn '6' symbol and rim patterns
-only 1 gloves, and a chui one.
the first time i did byakuya was at orchard during a streetfest in 2005 i believe. seriously it wasn't very good because i hand sew the whole outfit (so no seams, and flailing threads), and my scarf was made of connecting tshirts (tried to hide the prints inside). amazingly though, the scarf actually looks pretty real eventhough the idea was chui. i had no idea about make up at that time. it was also my 2nd cosplay after i did rinoa. so you see my face is au natural with drooping eyebrows, and even the captain cloak's no. 6 and the 01 patterns at the rims were drawn with cloth crayons (which washed out after i sent it to the machine).
but i still manage to get a pretty nice picture with the winner of the competition, saber
2) byakuya v2 (2008)
event: AFA
place: suntec convention
errors:
-used frank's sword, hilt was wrong
-white layer of sleeves, inside should have been white, sleeves should be double-layered
-eyebrow seems too long
-gloves broke halfway (just one of them though)
-hair was a bit wrong... and brown gahhh
-trousers very long, covered my sandals
improvements:
-fixed the entire outfit by machine sew, so it had seams and stuff
-scarf was made anew
-had make up now!
-2 gloves on both hands :D
-stitched on the '6' symbol and patterns. no smudges now!
i think this appeared so much better than the first! but my 3 streaks of hair in front were a little thin.
3) byakuya v3 (2009)
event: photoshoot
place: chinese garden
errors:
-hair! hair! hair!
-sometimes, my sword
-make up. need more eyeliner
improvements:
-the 3 streaks of hair in front no longer so thin... in fact i think it's pretty accurate. maybe a bit short?
-did an inner white sleeve
-repainted my sword. brought 2 swords there in case
-shortened my trousers, can walk without tripping now
-more accurate eyebrow.. i think
you'd have thought i'd have no errors now but with photoshopping, it might appear so! used my own hair so i had brown and silver streaks at random places, the back view pictures highlighted my brown hair especially since the cloak was white. however, the front view was all pretty ok, especially if they aren't close ups. overall, it was still a pretty good experience. here's my favourite photo. oh yeah, i combined the 2 swords together. pretty neat eh. xp OH, and my face seems to get rounder by the year. sucks.
i still wish i had some sakuras flying around for my chire shots though. oh well.
here's our groups photo thread if anyone's interested: http://sgcafe.com/showthread.php?t=61514

aye yes i'm not sure why i decide to blog on a sunday. but i'm probably too bored and i need a rest from watching fushigi yuugi. and i'm angry because the author freaking killed one of the suzaku seven. yeah.. i know it was forewarned in the ending trailer... and in the title as well, but you know. even harutoki carried on for 4 series without anyone of the hachiyous being killed! it's devastating. sighhs. not to mention an entire family got killed off just some episodes ago. i can't stand the blows. gahhh.
so here's the kyoko progress for today.
i managed to dismantle the sleeve parts, cut the top sleeve a little shorter and attached some more chiffon to make the cross strapped thing.
the lace details is also moved to the edge instead of underneath the chiffon like before
and the back looks cross strapped now.
at least the sleeves don't fall off my shoulders as easily as before. and i think the back can be worn as the front. lols.

spent my good friday pondering over whether i should fix my byakuya for the shoot the next day. so i spray painted a metallic silver for my old bokken and fixed the ribbons on top... sort of. i didn't really know how to tie it. and the tsuba pattern was chipped, so i had to replace it with a cut out board fit to it, and spray paint over. ended up spray painting my kitchen floor and the washing machine as well because when the spray paint is about to be used up, it apparently will go into a frenzy and spray in the weirdest directions.
so warning there, spread like a whole lot of newspapers if you're trying to use an almost-used up spray paint. varnish remover might help clear the stains... but not by much.
and at about 1030pm, i decided to cut some white cloth (left over from kyoko's dress) and create a fake white inner for my byakuya. wahhaha. finished about 1115-1130ish.
was worth it!

i did this like the previous week and was only able to finish it later on after i got my zip. cut the zip ends off and accidentally zipped the zipper out... twice. couldn't put it back and was too pek chek so went to buy a new one to sew on instead.
left hand side is the separate parts, on the right is how it looks like when combined. gonna be draped on my boots anyway.
oh yeah! doing this is so much more cheaper than getting new boots! it's almost free! (well i have a lot of pvc...)

and i took to starting my kyoko too. at least i kinda learn how to do those scrunch backs (use elastic string for bobbin and normal thread for the top part and sew). not very hard. used like 2m for the inner dress.
the top part needs to be fixed though.
tried to sew the sleeves like 5 times. and i might sew it again because right now it keeps slipping off my shoulders. and i forgot to include the long sleeve at the beginning, so had to detach and resew.
(ah yes i used scrunchy for the sleeves too! whee!) i'm glad i got to use all the leftover cloth i cut wrongly for the skirt as my sleeves. got about 5m of white satin altogether for the sleeves and outer dress.
here's the outer dress. had to buy extra cloth for the cascading part for this one. think i cut it like 4 times before i got it right. even know it still looks weird. maybe satin is not the right material.
