after being too preoccupied with subarashiki, i shall continue my previous week's trip before my memory loss gets the better of me.
so it was kyoto next after odaiba, or rather, on the night we went to odaiba, we took a night bus (by orion tour) to kyoto at around 11pm. cost us 8800yen each for a return trip.
had our last dessert of green tea azuki mochi before we left from tokyo station.
reached kyoto at 6am, with lots of time to spare.
luckily the train station was opened from 545am, so we could get our 1 day bus pas for 500yen.
it was quite a horrible start to our day though. my battery was dead, so it was impossible to get a map of where our hostel was, and there were very very few people awake and walking around at that time for us to ask for directions. we were lucky to even be pointed at the right area. then when some others came along and tried to help us call the hostel, it seems that the fax mode was switched on. when we finally found the place, nobody was there (or awake to answer the door) and we had to wait till about 9am.
stopped outside a cafe where the manager tried to help us call the hostel again and recharged my phone for a while, and had a pretty expensive toast and egg breakfast (500yen a set?)
and when the hostel finally opened, a half-awake man greeted us. we had to walk a flight of tiny stairways to reach our room.
so after we have washed and freshened ourselves up, it was time for the first stop: manga museum.
it was not opened yet when we got there at 945am+ (opens at 10am) so we sat at a cafe besides it to chui for a whie. and realised that the cafe's breakfast was cheaper and nicer than the one we had earlier. oh well, the owner was nice though.
finally getting in the museum.
manga artists' room
a display of part of the 1000 geishas' drawings.
room with some pictures drawn to raise awareness of the environment (i think)
nothing much here really. it's just a normal manga cafe with a little bit more artistic feeling. good if you wanna stay there fr the whole day, but not for less than an hour. to make up our loss we slept there a bit before leaving. and tried to read some manga since it's available in quite a lot of languages. waste of 300yen.
after this, we headed to nijo jo, but we didn't go in.
there was soooo many students. and i didn't really feel like exploring any other castles besides the legendary himeji jo.
there was a lot a lot a lot of temples in kyoto. but i'm not a very temple person so we only went to the famous one - kingakuji (golden temple), and paid like 600yen to walk around the place (which was pretty big).
a little ice for the hot weather.
entrance of kingakuji.
and the main attraction!
the thing i'm holding is the entrance ticket, which is in the form of a protective charm. coolll.
some other stuff around kingakuji.
some place for you to throw coins. we seem to join in the fun when we see one. think you can get your wish granted or something if you happen to throw in the furthest hole.
needless to say, all of us missed.
a little structure in the middle of nowhere.
some house.
the roof looks like it's made of faeces...
a temple there
denzyl was happy to leave
haagen daaz machine! didn't eat it anyway...
ooooh after this is my favourite part - shopping! it's around kyoto station, but i can't remember its name.
we lunched at matsuya.
and ate crepe
this is like one of the better crepes i've eaten so far. maybe cos it's green tea?
lalala~
kinokuniya?
shopping!!
390yen shop. love the sound of it. nothing much inside though.
nice crabby.
bubble tea.
a trendy kimono shop.
we kinda came here to look for dinner
chocolate maybe?
hmmm another temple.
bought our breakfast at lawson.
finally ate dinner at gyoza king (literally translated)
full!!! very value for money for such a set. about 800+yen with so many gyoza.
interesting bus arrival board.
feeling very cold now
we went home (to put our stuff) and came out again to look at the shopping district but everything was already closed.
think we also passed by the imperial castle of kyoto. looks interesting at night. (-_-`)
then it was back at home again.
our souvenirs so far for the day.
denzyl chui-ing. hoho! lovely pose.
and getting ready to sleep.
(arranged by yours truly later in the day of cos)
the next day, in the common room where we had our breakfast (sandwiches bought from lawson)
and set out for kiyomizudera (a temple yes, well, what do you know?). had to climb a hill to reach this (*#$Y temple.
yes, we're there!
at least the view from the top is pretty nice.
cleansed our hands.
but didn't enter the temple.
heh. it's good enough to see from the outside anyway.
there's like many students there... as usual.
and walking the downhill shops.
a nice black sesame shop
squeezy...
and then it was time to leave kyoto.
and also to check out the hostel.
next stop, osaka!
