yong-in eateries~

this post is gonna be all about the food i've had so far at yong-in. muahhaha.

there's a yong-in market 용인시장 just a 10 mins walk away from the station, that is a shopping district and full of things to eat. we go there for dinner pretty often. sometimes in the morning, we go there for breakfast although the only thing that's opened before 7am is lotteria and macdonald T_T otherwise, at the terminal itself just past 620am, there's a Snack stall that sells cone pizzas and nice egg toast. if not there's always the convenience shop...

there's also food at their local e-mart. believe it or not, this portion is for 3 person. the 2 guys i was with eat like monsters.

we also have samgyeopsal, like all the time. there's this place that is about $15 per person and is a buffet style kind of korean bbq. the smoke always drives me crazy, but these guys seem to love the place.

well, it is a good place if your group is full of guys who eat like monsters. bleah i can only manage to take half my face. oops.

aside from the buffet kind, there's also the high-end beef kind of bbq. the bloody cubes are liver... and the greyish thing is some intestinal lining. the on on the right is raw beef, you can eat it as it is or half-cook it. but i was so afraid my stomach wouldn't be able to take it that i cook it full - which as they say is a great big waste... hurhur.

the liver, when cooked, is pretty nice.

there's also porridge sold at the terminal, which is actually pretty good. porridge here is considered a high-end food. one bowl like this costs $10-$15, because of the ingredients used (seafood). we ate this after the guys all kena food poisoning the day before from the place we always had our alpab. but they got it from the hae-pab, a cold saladish kind of rice bowl with seafood.

now this is the really traditional kind of korean food, that i had for breakfast. it's just near eunhwasam shineville, so we can walk over easily from where i stay. the side dishes are pretty crazy. but i only liked the cucumber, as even the kimchi tasted weird to me. the fish is the main dish, and actually tastes like my mom's cooking. hmmm, my mom can do business here~ one fish is almost $15. pretty expensive...

there's also a pretty nice chinese restaurant at the yong-in market. we had a 5 course meal for about $25-$30 per person, with crabmeat soup!

we came back again for their dinner, but ordered separate items. the jajangmyeon plate is crazy big, it's like a b3 paper size. whoooo.

and since the guys are always craving ice cream after dinner, i can't count the number of times i've eaten baskin robbins since i came here. i'm gonna grow fat from just the ice cream. but i've to admit the flavours are awesome.... ekekeke. even the cake looks pretty. there's QR codes on them!!

sungkyun fooooooood

on the first day of school, at 9am, i had to take a test to stream me into the classes i needed to go to. =_= test in the wee hours. luckily the day before i studied a bit although it wasn't much help. we even mave a 말하기시험 (oral test) in the middle of the test. bleah.

then it was almost 4 hours of waiting after the test ended at 10am, since orientation was at 2pm.

arghhhh. sometimes not staying at the dormitory sucks. spent my time roaming the area again and took my lunch at their 'shopping mall'. ohh if you've watched sungkyun style you can see a lot of the places that was featured in the mv. heh. watch it here! they really found someone who look like psy! almost thought it was him.

tried to create my student pass and account but i can't really do anything until after i've been orientated. zzzz. was pretty relieved when 2pm came.

there must have been roughly 150-200foreign students who came to study from all over the world - china (duh), japan, USA, russia, bangladesh (was pretty surprised at this actually), vietnam, etc but i was the only singaporean. HAHA.

i was streamed into level 4 out of the 7 levels there are. phew! it's considered the higher intermediate, just where i stopped at. thankfully i don't need to repeat learning any thing i learnt!

and i found out that the students in my class learnt what i did in 2 years, in just 6 months. they're all so monstrously clever. but of course, if you're under the crazy study camp of 9-3pm everyday, and after that even more private studying, you'll be at that level too. stress.

i also spend the next few days looking around the campus and eating at their various canteens. the food isn't fantastic but it does ok. here's the kimchi fried rice. you can't go wrong with this...

and i ate this at their shopping mall. cold spicy ramen. i almost died. TOO SPICY.

then sometimes i purchase from their convenience stores the cup noodles since the queues at the canteens are just too crazy. whyever did they decide to all have lunch at the same time =_=

here's a kiss ramen advertised by micky yoo chun~~

and there's a few stores selling egg bread or 계란빵 just near our school grounds for 700-1000 won each (the ones at suwon is 1k won. zz) it's nice!! it's like an egg muffin to be honest.

this is the one i bought at suwon. not much diff. maybe it's a bit more poofy and more eggish? in my opinion the 700yen ones near my school is nicer. look at the egg oozing out. hmmm-mmm.

Sungkyunkwan... scandal?

i was originally supposed to be enrolled in kyunghee but i changed my mind on knowing that we could individually register to sungkyunkwan ourselves. who's gonna pass up an opportunity to study in a school featured in a drama!!! kekekeke.

i came to visit the school on a sunday since i didn't receive any confrmation on where to go what time to go and what to do for the first day of school. zzz. did they miss me out...

after the taxi ride to yong-in. i took bus #10 all the way to Suwon mrt and then another bus 92 to reach the stop near Sungkyunkwan mrt. thank goodness i didn't get lost while looking for the school, because i practically asked everyone i saw on where to go at every turns. i must have asked about 10 people. lol. it's a good skill you know! not like i'm ever going to see them again.

even by following the map i still needed to ask another 10 people but it was just a straight path towards the school. and i made it! the red gate reminds me of tokyo uni's akaimon. pas this door though, all the buildings are actually pretty modern.

and then of course i needed to ask another 10 more people on where i should go. thank goodness there's some china students around so i was directed to the dormitory registration area, where a helpful korean student took me around so i could know who to go to and where to find when i reach on my first day.

this is their very nice dormitory building

and here's the place i'll be attending my lessons at

at the entrance of the building

on the second level. i guess they didn't really bother with the word reparation...

heh. after i found where i was supposed to go, i took some more pictures of the school before i return home for the day. here's the Samsung library. (god, i had no idea samsung is this crazy huge ass company here. they even have apartments.)

here's the research buildings in the far distance.

and here's the school's shopping mall which has bookstores, convenience stalls, cafe, restaurant, bank, hairdresser etc. really pretty much everything we will need.

Korea! Here i come!!

Figures i better do an update since it's already half a month since i arrived. but i'm a bit lazy to type so i shall just spam my photos. 8D

took Korean airlines this time. wanted to get an increase in baggage space but practically nobody picked up their supposedly 24hr hotline unless you let it ring endlessly. they might as well throw their phone away. when someone finally picked up after i left it to wring for a minute, the service sucked, no special extension for students at all.

oh well at least the plane had better seats and entertainment than the one i took previously.

i arrived early in the morning around 9am. and my dearest came to pick me up to send me to the house i'll be staying till july *__*

안녕하세요~~~~ this is yong-in!

since there's almost everything i need in the room i won't really need to step out except for food. hahahah. i even have a cute auto vacuum cleaner. look!
hee
and in the distance there's our csl headquarters.

could have been lovelier if they threw out all the rubbish outside. -_-
for the first few days i spent most of my time there and we played board games till past midnight o_o playing in korean wasn't very easy but at least i can always google the instructions heh

and because we eat outside all the time i get to choose to drink pretty coffees advertised by the local stars. hahhahah

ohh during my first day i also went over to an open house. since it was related to sy's family business we all went down to have a look. uh we stopped at the wrong place and ended up here actually.

didn't manage to take pictures of the open house as i'm not sure of the etiquettes there. but you have to take off your shoes to visit, it was so troublesome. the houses were very nice though.

we also went over to gangnam to have a look at their 3D printer. whoooooa. think it's going for about 2-3k?

looks awesome...

and for dinner we ate something which tasted like beef stew. and the soupy thing actually has cheese and ramen in it. love it!
