130329 Hongdae Cooking Class

as a kind of treat for us, we had a cooking class held the day after we were done with our exams. so we went to hongdae's rinnai building and got ready to make gimbab/sushi 김밥, chicken stew 찐닭 and pancake 바전.

there was sometime before class started so i took a little walk around hongdae. not much except for restaurants and some street art murals.

here's how the class looks before we start - ingredients were all prepared and the kitchen spacious and clean~

we all changed into our aprons and started working. our pretty instructor used a mike to tell us what to do with the ingredients. hurhur. the guys wearing the aprons look hilarious~!~

started with chopping all the parts for the stew. not so hard.

we then made the sauce and fried the chicken, then poured everything into a pot to boil.

once the sauce is poured in and stirred and set to boil for a while, it actually smelt pretty awesome~

then we mixed the stuff for the pancake. since the guys had more strength, they were tasked to do it. kekek.
pancake is not too hard, you just pour all the ingredients together with flour + water and mix it well, then smear it in the pan. we made like 4 of these, with seafood ingredients. but wow the spring onions that's used is HUGE.

then i had the honor of making the gimbab. you basically smear the starchy rice to each corner of the seaweed, place the ingredients 1/3 way and roll the thing.

and then with the kimchi as the side dish, everything is done in about 2-3hours~ i know, what a spread~! we couldn't even finish everything. bleahs. the chicken stew was the best!!

took some more walk around hongdae then returned back to yong-in for dinner at the chinese restaurant we went previously. oh gosh i just keep eating right. i actually said i didn't want dinner but i followed and ate like 5% anyway.

the guys ordered some really traditional chinese salad-like rojak thingy and it tasted HORRIBLE. the yellow sauce that's poured all over is like wasabi so it kinda choked me like crazy.

you dip these plastic-like thingy in hot water to soften it, then use it to wrap the rojak stuff, popiah-style. i almost thought these were plastics for you to put plates on.

burrrrh. so i was laughed at because i'm a chinese who can't eat chinese food. since when we have such thing in our country anyway?! thank goodness they also ordered something a bit more human - spicy seafood soup or jangbong 짱뽕. pretty nice~

and we went to watch G.I. Joe after dinner. lee byun hyun was awesome. i think he's the only attraction in the whole show. zooooh.

130328 Ofla in Dongdaemon

we had our 말하기시험in the morning - mine was around 9.30am so i was able to sleep a little later. then i had my first lunch with my classmates. hahahah. went to a nearby restaurant and i ordered cheese ramen. it's as literal as the name says. lol.

after school, i went over to dongdaemon to meet ofla who was here for a week trip.

we were supposed to meet around 630 so i had quite a lot of time to shop around. there was this building with a lot of clothes and accessories (more than 10 levels high??) so i went to look around. unfortunately because there's so many things to see i lost interest in seeing them.

to be honest they weren't that cheap either. but the building that's next to it that's selling a lot more high class and nicer clothes had even more absurd prices. T_T was a little hungry so i bought a hoddog 호뗙 on the way. basically tastes like a red bean pancake.

meeting ex colleagues in another country seems to bring back the days when we were working together. we went to eat gamja-tang at a random restaurant

it's a hell lot of beef for the 2 of us. and we turned the remaining soup to fried rice, like what the koreans always do. heh.

and ended our meal with mulberry wine. hmmm-hmmm it's nice~~

130326 Sansachun, Daepo

since i wanted to eat some pancakes, mr 0 searched for a famous one that was in yong-in - and found it! so we went with some team members over to eat. it's hidden in a little house, and seems to be a home restaurant! or rather the settings are built like that?

mr dman and waki are making really strange faces.

and here's our food! we ordered some chicken curry like thingy. and the seafood pancake of course. mmmmmmmmmmmmm.

the food, although quite expensive (like the prices in korean restaurants in singapore, but a little more), really tastes awesome. and i ate so much. the makgolli is especially nice! tastes pretty refreshing, and is the best i've had so far!

i made the mistake of eating too much and they cooked fried rice out of the leftover curry soup. yikes. almost burst from eating too much. koreans seem to have a culture of making fried rice from leftover soup. shall take notice next time i have soup stuff...

and that's our dinner~

130324 Wau Jeongsa

visited the huge buddha for the weekend. it's just around yong-in city and seems to be a place that's popular with the thais (cos there's thai writings everywhere).

before that we went over to eat mr pizza. it's expensive, but the flavours they have is worth a try. there's pizzas that's even split in 4 for 4 different flavours, though it wasn't available at the restaurant we visited. actually 1 pizza is more than enough for 2 person, but some people just don't like to order just 1 item. or maybe mr 0 hates bread that much =_= still i managed to eat the dakddugi flavour that was advertised on their website~

well anyway here's wau jeongsa at a glance. generally i don't like to visit religion-related places, unless there's someone special to walk with. so it's ok this time! kekeke.

we took a taxi over since no buses go there.

so this buddha you see, is pretty big. the head is maybe 10 floors high. it reminded me of the statue in kamakura.

you have to climb pretty high up to see all the things there. ugh. oh well, just treat it as exercising...!

and after you climbed up you get to see... temples. i mean that's what we're here for right.

and statues of course. don't you just love them. my photos are pretty nice right.

there was these 12 zodiacs on the opposite of the statue and 00 says that this statue is in a thinking position as it was frustrated at the little kids who were pulling at the zodiac statues. lol

once you go further up you can see uh, more statues. there was nice drawing panels at the side telling some stories, but 20% of it has been scratched off.

oh and i'm gonna tell you how to leave your name in history easily. you pay like 1,000,000 won to leave your name on one of the selected 'gods'.

or you could buy a panel and write a message. and these tiles will get stacked into a little pavillion.

if not you can always mull in a corner and stack stones.

what, aren't they cool...??

wanted to snack at a korean house before we head back but the uncle who came out told us it wasn't very good, so we hailed a taxi and went back for the day. short and sweet trip.
