140212 FF13 LR Launch

and so we went to the Lightning Returns launch at St James as one of the cosplayers. it was an honor to do Yun Fang at my beloved Square Enix event!!

so the day before i realised some of my items were really broken. so i had to redo mainly the necklace and my boots. cut all the pieces via foam and painted them.

 and my boots to resew

and in the evening we headed down for the event! so exciting!

we changed and waited at the back for the event to start. the event prizes were awesome - ps 3, vita, the new games, figurines. omg. i wished i was one of the lucky draw contestants. we didn't even get any memorabilia T_T

so anyway here's me with one of the pretty staff who ushered us.

we were told to pose in front of the stage for people to take pictures. it was awkward.

it was quite awkward for me and kaien actually. but so glad later on, lots of other ff cosplayers came too~

 

the presentation was done and we could eat the refreshments around and selfie with lightning standees

when the event is over and people started to clear, we could really take photos with the background before they tore it down!

we then went to mac to have a short dinner before going home. and met a bunch of ff cosplayer team who gave us a puzzle stack of namecards!! so cool!!

and that concludes the event~

managed to find a decent video for our cosfest finals!



weapon was halfway completed but still looking good! whaahahwaw it's foldable!!! (not like it's gonna be much help, since we're gonna keep it open... zzz)

redid armband for the black spots. not very obvious from the picture though. i used 5 strands this time (last time was 4).. haha. falling asleep watching full metal alchemist episode 56. wow.



some updates on the spear i'm recreating. realised that her spear is a 3 part nunchaku thingy with a hollow for the blade:





wondered if i should create a new design from her collections, but decided to stick to the original since it's more recognizable.



well at least it's gonna be easier to keep if i redo it!

found someone who did it pretty well...





so here's my progress - first the blades which are now single-sided and cut from corrugated board. much lighter now!



then the pipe with 3 parts. it was a pain to slice the hollow... (see rightmost stick)



and i decided to clay all the markings and patterns since white glue can stick them pretty well! i think my clay manipulation just upped a level...



and her tattoos. found from cosplay.com thread on yun fang cosplay this pattern someone did. looks nicer than the one i rendered.



this is the one i did, well? which one is better???



and now i can finally write grand pulse alphabets correctly...

had some time to myself yesterday for some costumes reparations.. yawnnss



i used the chains to clip onto the middle parts. easy. not very obvious, but details schmetails...



and yes after lots of forum explorations, fang's crystals are purple. i think the blue images are because of the scenario she was in...



slightly inaccurate for the beadings. but yawns, don't think the judges can see from afar. repair for shoot.

never had the chance to post this but yes! the spear is done (DUH)





and when we last tried it was bendable!



but now it's not -.- cos it was too unsteady and wobbly. but remember what you promised huh... mr mm x bahamut..>!!!

bleahhs i know it was a bit late to redo, but the base i had was too short, hence i needed to redo!!! so progress for spear (it's actually almost done now, just that i forgot to take the pictures). there's no real difference between this and the previous one actually... some minor differences (play spot the difference, will ya?)

painted the blades over the weekends...

spray painted only 1 side red.


this actually has 2 sides taped together to forma bit of 3d look. used black acrylic to paint cos i didn't have black spray paint.

don't know how many times i tried to stick this thing but uhu glue totally doesn't work and i'm glad hot glue helps.

going to remove the clay part on top though, it seems very flimsy and my blades are certainly not going to stay on...

and i've actually worked some more on yf! her costume is really driving me crazy. and now the weapon is driving me crazy too. i have no idea how to attach the pincer thing to the pole... sighhhs. so i've only the base for now
